For Arthas!

I’ve just played through the Death Knight starting area and quests on Siaka, my Draenei Death Knight. I have to say it: this is the single most fun and immersive in-game experience I’ve ever had. I tend to think almost everyone should roll a death knight – even if they have no desire to play one long-term – and at least play through the starting area, to experience this for themselves.

For those of you who want spoilers: rather than reinvent the wheel by trying to show off the content myself, I point you to Lume’s blog; he’s posted an in-depth review, including videos of some of the pivotal scenes.

  1. Death Knights is getting good reviews. Looks like I’ll be needing ta add one ta me team. Just gotta figger out if is gonna be Juniper the Perky Death Knight or Maurice, the Death Knight of Love.

  2. Agreed, I liked the tightness of the Undead quests best, then the BE starting quest. During the BE quests I saw a high level orc hunter roam through and realized that I was still playing WoW.

The DK feel is quite immersing. The quests, the partitioned solitude, the learned of old things new, and the lack of actual leveling so much.

I really hungered to go from final DK questing straight to Naxx, ala “here’s johnny”.

Few concepts have such a RP potential, though the BE and Undead do have good ones. The others are poor, nothing Alliance comes close to even valid … gnomer? Trolls?

Even the northrend exploration, welcome to the area quests are charming. Some what more robust than the Outlands on balance.

I hoped for an ‘opening of the gates’ or ‘war effort’ thing to get the flying mounts unlocked or something. But oh well.

  3. All they reviews about Death Knights are well-founded. I wish all my experiences with different classes were as enriching as these starting quests.

I have so many positive thoughts and experiences but I don’t want to wander into spoiler territory. I make a very bad beta-tester knowing that all the time I put in on the beta-realms will be reset. But my Blood Elf DK is already 64. And I will probably roll one after I get one or two of my characters to 80.

  4. I’ve copied my shaman over. I’m still “Treylah” and enjoying all the thunderstormy goodness that is 51-pt elemental. If you happen to see a 64-BElf DK running around Terokkar Forest named Meiya, that’s me as well. I may copy my hunter over just to check out the pet trees.

I will keep an eye out for you (I have been at least). Unless you’ve used an aberration of one of your normal names that I am not familiar with (Saylan etc.), I haven’t seen you around.
